About the Society

The Abbeyfield Oxford Society is a small, independent charity that provides sheltered accommodation for ten individuals of senior age at a lovely home, Brian Lewis House, in St Clements, near the centre of Oxford.
The Society is one of 400 homes around the UK and overseas that have the name ‘Abbeyfield’ and are attached to a national charity,
‘The Abbeyfield Society’.
Abbeyfield homes enable elderly people to avoid the problem of isolation by living
together in a secure, comfortable home, whist still enjoying an independent lifestyle.
Our residents are freed of the burden of maintaining a house and are helped with many of the tasks involved in day-to-day living. All have their own room with private en-suite bathroom facilities. They come and go as they please, receive visitors, and enjoy two cooked meals a day.
Local people
The philosophy of Abbeyfield is to involve local people, so the Society is run by a Board of voluntary trustees who live around the Oxford area.
There is a House Manager, Deputy House Manager, Administrator and several General House Assistants who assist with the day-to-day running of the home. Many other local volunteers also provide support to the residents.
We do not provide nursing or personal care, so new residents must be in reasonably good health, active and able to move around by themselves. However, residents or their relatives may arrange to bring in support, if they wish.
