Be a supporter
Abbeyfield Oxford is a successful, local charity that is well-known in the Oxford region.
Whilst it is fortunate to have its own money and employs a number of staff, it is still a registered charity and voluntary organisation, relying for its long-term survival on the support, time and generosity of local volunteers.
If you are interested in supporting the work of the Society, you can help in one of three ways – as a Member, Volunteer or a Trustee.
Become a Member
By becoming a Member of Abbeyfield Oxford Society you will not only be showing your support but you will be entitled to vote at General Meetings and influence how the Society is run and developed. You have no obligations except to pay £1.00 in the most unlikely event that the Society has to be wound up.
As a Member you will receive acknowledgement on the Society’s website, a quarterly newsletter, and invitations to attend House events and take part in various activities and projects organised by the Society.
Become a Volunteer
As a charity, we rely greatly on the time and support given generously by our local volunteer supporters. They assist in many areas, including:
-visiting residents
-taking a resident to the doctor
-gardening
-helping with transport on outings
-organising social events
It’s a great way to ‘put something back’ into the local community, use your spare time, make new friends, and even use a skill or interest you have.
To help you keep updated about the Society you will receive a quarterly newsletter. And, of course, you will be invited to take part in the many events and activities organised by the Society.
Become a Trustee
The Society has up to 12 trustees who are the Directors of the Society. They are responsible for the overall management of the organisation.
Each trustee is allocated a particular aspect of the Society – usually based on their professional skills and interests - to focus on and assist with.
Trustees sit as a Board six times a year and hold office for a term of up to four years. Each year a quarter of the Board must stand down or offer themselves for re-election at the Society’s Annual General Meeting.
