Loving Opera

Music is a comfort that does not wither! Last month three residents accompanied a volunteer to the Metropolitan Opera digicast of La Boheme. It was a wonderful production by Zeffirelli dating from the 1980s. The singers were vibrant, attractive and acted very well.
As they thought that noone can have too much of a good thing, this month they listened in house on a new mini hi-fi to a large part of the famous recording conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham with Jussi Bjorling and Victoria de los Angeles. This is perhaps the best recording of the opera ever made and all marvelled at the soaring voices supported on the cushion of sound created for them by Beecham.
But beware – perhaps the next opera played in house on our system may be by Wagner!
