The 2016 Annual General Meeting of the Abbeyfield Oxford Society took place on Wednesday 27 April. Trustees, residents, friends and helpers gathered to perform the necessary business, and then to be fed and entertained.
Chairman Jim Heywood thanked all those involved with Brian Lewis House – residents, staff, trustees, volunteers and helpers – for making the house a happy and secure environment.
Treasurer High Scrutton presented the accounts and remarked on their healthy state, partly due to nearly-full occupancy of rooms and partly due to our investments.
Jim returned to offer a vote of thanks and a word of appreciation to Hester Hand, who was standing down as a Trustee after ten years of guiding the house through its Gold Star accreditation, its appointment of a number of staff members, and much more besides. He presented Hester with a gift of wine and garden centre vouchers – a perfect choice – and House Manager Chaowadee added a splendid bouquet of flowers. Hester replied with a heart-felt thank-you and an assurance that she would still be a frequent presence at the house’s various events.
The evening was rounded off with a magnificent spread of food prepared by the staff, and extremely enjoyable music provided by a local jazz trio.
