On 20th June, our sister Abbeyfield care home in Oxford, Oxenford House, celebrated 25 years with a special afternoon where residents, staff, volunteers, families and an invited audience joined forces to put on a special tea party as a celebration of this great achievement.
They welcomed three special guests on the day – acclaimed local author Philip Pullman, who read excerpts from some of the books that have inspired him over the years, President of The Abbeyfield Society, the Rt. Hon. Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde, who spoke of her work within Abbeyfield and her determination for ‘banging the drum’ for elderly people in the House of Lords and Joy Baldwin, the President of the society who was also the first Executive Committee Chairperson.
A special presentation for the dedicated care team took place during the afternoon to show appreciation for all their hard work and dedication to the residents – four of whom have been there since opening in June 1990!
The day was a great opportunity for the house to reflect on all their achievements of the last 25 years, and to look forward to a very bright future.
