At this month’s Coffee Morning we welcomed three of the candidates for the Oxford East Constituency in the General Election on the 8th June. Anneliese Dodds, the Labour Candidate, Dr Kirsten Johnson the Liberal Democrat and Dr Suzanne Bartington the Conservative.
All three presented their manifestos to those of us present which included residents and guests.
Questions, which continued for two and a half hours, ranged from the Brexit vote and representing the “No” minority, the rights of immigrants already in the UK, to housing (both affordable and rental), lack of religious understanding, policing and the Health Service. It was a lively discussion and the candidates seemed to appreciate being asked to come. One guest commented that she would like to be informed of any such future events.
Other Coffee Morning events have included tutors from Oxford University Continuing Education talking about their fields of interest.
