The Magdalen College School held its Arts Festival in July and had invited the general public to design a postcard depicting any aspect of Oxford.
Two residents from the Oxford Abbeyfield House took part, and we looked forward to seeing our efforts being exhibited on a huge mural, combining all the postcard entries.
Alas, a fire broke out at the school a week before the festival. Every one of the postcards went up in flames. Replacements were hastily created by the school pupils to represent the lost originals.
After the initial disappointment we were given two complementary tickets to the evening of madrigals performed from punts on the river by the school choir and orchestra
