Residents, staff, trustees, and friends recently said a sad goodbye to three of our trustees, Charles who has been involved for over 15 years and is now retiring to write a book about Wagner, ex chairman Jim who is returning to the USA, and Alison who is moving with her husband to take over and make over her parents’ house in Gloucester. We started with drinks, snacks, gifts and speeches. This was followed by a poem for each of the trustees written by one of the residents, presents, and a some emotional moments. In spite of the sometimes difficult tasks and long meetings, the leavers said it has been a great privilege and they very much enjoyed working with everyone.
We then adjoined for lunch to favourite La Cucina just opposite. Jim said “It was very enjoyable in the House being able to thank all of you and also the residents, as was evident it was difficult for me as I will leave with great memories, working with all of you and doing our best for the residents. The lunch was a perfect ending as it was a chance to sit and chat and enjoy the company of a group, who for me has been a privilege to work with and will be remembered with much appreciation and fondness.” Not to be outdone, Charles said “The spirit in the house and the lunch company and environment were all so positive. Life was enhanced.”
In spite of losing these three at the same time, we are delighted that one new trustee has been appointed already, bringing excellent expertise, with others from the local community also in the frame to help continue Abbeyfield Oxford
