The Life and Works of Ervin Bossanyi – a talk by the artist’s son Jo

On Monday 21st November, Jo Bossanyi, son of the artist Ervin Bossanyi, gave us an enthralling and deeply personal insight into the life and works of his father.
Jo talked to us about his father’s background and significant life events that had influenced him. Ervin was alive during two world wars and had eventually emigrated to the UK with his wife and son to escape the Nazi regime.
Jo shared slides of his family and his father’s work, he explained the meaning of each piece and pointed out significant features.
Some of Ervin Bossanyi’s stained glass windows can be seen in Oxford. At St Johns College Chapel there are windows depicting scenes from the life of St Francis of Assisi and at St Peters College Chapel there is a window entitled “In his hands the seeds will grow” which is pictured here.
